Yoga practice sessions
Here are some further details about the
practice sessions to give your more of a flavour of the content and themes of
each session.
Giovanni
The Yoga practice sessions will follow an
ecological "weaving" or a "walking around" of themes. Themes will serve as
frames for looking at our poses and our practice from different angles.
There will be time to practice, time to make meaning, time for a bit of how our
bodies work and what it means to be in gravity and so on. The whole will
be in a restful atmosphere of enquiry.
1 Where do I move from? (Wed 9
- 11.30)
What does it mean to be in gravity? What does it mean to have orientation?
What does "grounding" and "lengthening" mean to me as I practise?
2 How can I be stable and fluid
when I move? (Wed 2.30 - 3.30)
Can the body can be very stable but fluid like water or wind at the same time?
To find out we will probably look at the art of balancing among other things.
3 Why is it so delicious to twist?
(Wed 4 - 5.30)
Does the body long to twist? What are front bending twists and backbending
twists? What's in a twist and does this have anything to do with the curves of
the spine? To find out we will probably do the twist?
Wed evening session:
Becoming embodied. Integrity of movement. (Wed 7.30pm - 9.00)
Here we will take time to look at some principles of contemporary movement
theory that might help us understand our own delicious project in gravity.
Where am I? What do I get up to in gravity? What is my resource?
And so on . . .
4 Finding the ground, finding the
sky (Thurs 9 - 11.30)
This session will give us time to continue walking around the themes of the
previous sessions.
Christopher
1 Who
Practices? (Thurs 2.30 - 3.30)
Yoga is at its best a consistent
inquiry into the nature of Being. Who is practising? What moves you
to practice? What is practice for? Experiential enquiry into the
nature of Beingness.
2 Expanding
the map of Love (Thurs 4 - 5.30)
Any map or version of Love is
incomplete as deep Love is in continual process, ever expanding. How using
yogic practice can we extend beyond our normal view of Love and open into the
infinite more fully?
Thurs evening
session: Being space
(Thurs 7.30pm - 9.00)
If you knew your self intimately as mostly space, as vast open potential, as the
unborn vastness of primordial awareness how would you behave, how would you
move, how would you live your life? Come and find out.
3 Welcoming
Grace (Fri 9 - 11.30)
Baker Roshi described ‘awakening’ as an accident. Yoga practice makes us
accident prone. How can we more fully welcome the grace that is the heart
of Yoga?
4 Partner
Yoga 1 (Fri 2.30 - 3.30)
Working with partners in a variety of ways to create a playful practice that
works to cultivate the energy of friendly relations and deeper opening into the
truth mirrored for us by the other.
5 Partner
Yoga 2 (Fri 4 - 5.30)
Using hands on technique in partners to allow greater Yin opening and relax
deeply into the stillness at the core of ones essential self. A beautiful
experience.
Amanda
1 The gift (Sat 9 - 11.30)

Hands on.

in a partly guided/partly improvised session with music. Great
fun!
Andrea

9.00, 2.30 and 4.00)
Now fully booked - please email to go on the waiting list
Structural integration sessions with Andrea are 75-minute sessions for one
person and are individually tailored. Sessions will involve body reading
(in underwear) and an exploration of how your body is organised in gravity and in movement.
Specific issues can be addressed and each session will be different according to
the individual. Please enquire for more information or to book a session.
Friday evening session: Walking on the
earth (Fri 7.30 - 9.00)
Looking at the structure of the foot and the walking mechanism. How we
organise our bodies in walking. How our perception of the world shapes our
pattern of walking. What it means to be upright.
1 Dynamic equilibrium (Sun 9 -
11.30)
Developing resilience in body and mind through asana practice. Exploring
Patanjali's sutras relating to asana. How does this relate to modern
movement theory? How does this relate to our own lives?
2 Finding direction (Sun 2 -
4)
Knowing where we are in order to move on and grow. Finding direction in
order to find stability in body and mind. Gentle asana, relaxation and
discussion. Conclusion of the summer school. In every beginning is
an ending, in every ending is a beginning.
Meditation
sessions
There are 5 sessions taking place at 12 -
1pm each day of the summer school Wed - Sun. They are all led by one of
the summer school teachers, each with different spiritual backgrounds, who will
share their own approach and experience. Each session will include a short
talk, a time to meditate together and time for discussion.
Wed: Meditation 1: An introduction to
meditation - Giovanni
Contemplation means: "learning to see." Meditation is the practice of
learning to see. Learning to see with our whole being the gift of things just as
they should be. Learning to see with the listening eyes of the heart.
In meditation we start just where we are and we learn to pay attention to the
present moment.
Thurs: Meditation 2:
Mantra meditation - the song of the heart - special guest Muz Murray
Sound is a fundamental aspect of our lives. It affects us in many
ways. Some sounds are healing and some are destructive. Often the
silent ‘sounds’ of our own thoughts are more destructive than anything external.
Learning to subdue and evaporate this constant inner ‘voice’ - by the ancient
vocal technique known as Mantra - brings us peace of mind and releases vital
energy back in the body.
Fri: Meditation 3: Tantrik meditation
- Christopher
Sat: Meditation 4: A
Buddhist meditation - Amanda
Finding
presence of awareness in the dimension of ....
Sun: Meditation 5:
Meditation and
kriya yoga - Andrea
Exploring the 'kriya yoga' of Patanjali - tapas, svadhyaya and
Ishwarapranidhana and the importance of meditation practice within this
approach. How just being allows us to grow.
